After a very wet night and morning the event is beginning to get underway. Riders are beginning to assemble from The Island, the lower mainland and Washington State.
Four riders are currently out on the practice route (1pm Thursday) now that the monsoon has moderated into fine drizzle. Endurance test of many dimensions this will be.
After a riders meeting and consulting the many, varied weather forecasts (none of which promised a dry evening and night), the assembled wisdom was to bring the start of the Prologue forwards so that all riders could be expected to finish before dark. To complete a night ride in good conditions would have been one thing, to (safely) complete a night ride in bad conditions troika be something entirely different. If the monsoon starts up again, further careful though will be had as there are three long days yet to come and this is, after all, supposed to be fun…
The next report will have the results of the Prologue…
