The supporting and enabling legislations, regulations and policies.
It has taken me a while to get around to pulling together the relevant points i have previously written about to support the legality of FSR Time Speed Distance motorcycle rallies on Vancouver Island (and BC in general), but here it is… The collected works - well, some of them at least! —————————————— The case for Time Speed Distance (TSD) Regularity Rallysport to be recognised as a competitive road legal motorcycle motorsport genre in British Columbia. “How is this legal?”…. Further supporting Legislation and Regulations enabling Regularity Rally as a road legal, competitive motorsport (in BC).
In most circumstances, the concepts of “road legal” and “competitive Motorsport” are mutually exclusive. There is one motorsport genre, for both cars and bikes, which in BC specifically and probably in other jurisdictions fulfils both requirements of being a competitive motorsport and being quite road legal - provided certain conditions are met. Regularity Rally, aka Time/Speed/Distance Rally, Navigation Trials. The “certain conditions” are: All participants must be “legal us

TWO ROADBOOKS FOR YOU TO TRY. Port Alberni area, reasonably accessible from the Victoria and Vancouver area (via Nanaimo ferry terminals)
Now that the clocks are about to change and day length is increasing rapidly, it is about time that we (you) all got out in the woods again… These two roadbooks describe the event routes from a few years ago in the forests west of Port Alberni, to the north and south of the Alberni Inlet. The route to the north of the inlet is significantly more mountainous than the route to the south and you can expect the southern route to be clear of snow as much as a month before the th

Rally Roadbook Reader, the app, the tech, the how-to. Apple and Android
The founding principle of Vancouver Island Motosports Events is to provide affordable, accessible motorcycle motorsport to grassroots motorcycle enthusiasts. This blog post is intended to take readers who are unfamiliar with the Rally Roadbook Reader app through what it is, what it can do and how to get PDF roadbooks into it and up-and-displayed and therefore meet this principle. I fully appreciate that not everyone in the 21st Century is 100% tech savvy and therefore using

Farewell 2025 - Welcome 2026 and 2027…
As one year metaphorically recedes into the landscape, a new one comes up under the wheels… (cheesy i know but). Last week in December, the scutt-end of the year. The mid-winter festivities are history again, the significance of the passing of the winter solstice has yet to become apparent. And there is snow. Sometimes it is the soft, compliant kind that provides some sideways grip for the front tyre, sometimes it is compacted, white-ice that is “not much fun”. Time fo

Proposal for 2027 - The Great Canadian VI (six) Day Trial. GoldRiver ‘27. Wednesday 30 June - Wednesday 7 July 2027 (Twenty SEVEN).
Vancouver Island (north) As I write this, in December 2025, the longest running competitive motorcycle event in the history of the Universe is 113 years old…. In 1913 The Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) sanctioned a six day motorcycle reliability trial in the north of England as The International Six Days Trials (ISDT) - a marathon reliability event that had been running in the UK for a decade before. The purpose of the event was to showcase and challenge the

As you have come to expect, I am doing a bit of a deeper dive into this subject. The previous blog post I wrote about this introduced the three lighting systems I am com

Have you seen the light…? No, not a religious revelation but serious off-road lighting for serious off road riding only!
Tomorrow, winter starts… On a dark desert byway Cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas Rising up through the air… Up ahead in the distance I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night. Eagles - Hotel California The powers-that-be have exercised their prerogative to mess with our body-clocks and Winter Time for those in the northern hemisphere has begun.
